Commercial Leases

Lease Surrender

By Tim Nichols

In plain English

An agreement or legally effective arrangement by which a tenant gives up possession and the landlord accepts the ending of the tenancy. A negotiated surrender should specify payments, restoration, deposits, claims, and guarantee treatment. Returning keys alone does not necessarily end all lease liability.
