Sublease

By Tim Nichols

In plain English

An arrangement in which a tenant grants another occupant rights to use all or part of leased premises while retaining an interest under the original lease. The original tenant generally remains obligated to the landlord unless released. Consent, permitted use, duration, and default consequences depend on the lease and sublease.
