Business Disputes

Statute of Limitations

By Tim Nichols

In plain English

A legal deadline for filing a particular type of claim, generally measured from an accrual event subject to applicable rules and exceptions. The correct period depends on the claim and transaction. Sending demands or negotiating does not ordinarily suspend the deadline without a valid legal basis or agreement.
